In a letter to the CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees asked for an audit of the Foundation’s $225,550 grant to the Newmarket Soccer Club.
”Given recent allegations that the organization has had financial pressures, I believe it is important to ensure that the funds granted to the Newmarket Soccer Club Inc. were used for the purpose set out in the enclosed Schedule A as prescribed,” Klees said in his letter. “Please provide me with a detailed audit confirming that this is the case.”
Klees said that there are two reasons for his audit request.
“First, I want to ensure that the air is cleared around this issue,” said Klees. “People’s reputations and the credibility of the organization is at stake.”
“Equally as important is to ensure that the Trillium Foundation which distributes $115 million in grants every year is providing proper oversight.”
