Labour Minister Agrees to Investigate WSIB Practice
Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees called on the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to immediately stop its practice of demanding customer lists from businesses as a condition of registration.
Klees raised the issue in the legislature after being made aware of the practice by a local business owner. The Minister of Labour told the legislature that he was not aware of the practice and undertook to review the policy with the Chairman of the WSIB.
“There was a time when government respected the right to privacy and treated individuals and businesses with respect. This is one more example of a government agency overstepping its mandate and it has to stop," said Klees, insisting there can be no justifiable reason for the WSIB to demand this kind of information.
Attached is the Hansard copy of the exchange on this issue between Klees and the Minister of Labour.
