"For three weeks Dalton McGuinty and his Minister stonewalled and refused to answer questions. For three weeks the Minister insisted that there was no need to call in the Auditor," said Klees. "Now that the Auditor is finally going investigate and the Minister's credibility has been called into question, it's time for the Minister to do the right thing and resign until the Auditor completes his investigation." Klees Adds Signature to Joint Opposition Letter Urging Auditor To Investigate McGuinty Liberal Slush Fund Scandal

(Queen's Park) Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees today added his signature to a letter to Ontario 's Auditor-General asking him to investigate the ongoing slush fund scandal.

"The Auditor General must fully undertake to investigate the Liberal slush fund scandal," said Klees. "This is not an issue about politics; it is about the fundamental issue of public accountability and fairness."

The letter, also signed by all other Opposition MPP's, calls on the Auditor to initiate a full review of government year-end spending out of secret funds and report back before September 10 th , 2007. The letter asks the Auditor to probe: how much money exists in secret funds; how it is being spent; for what purpose; who is receiving these funds; and how these recipients were selected.

"The Opposition have asked 244 questions in the Legislature to date and haven't received answers to one," Klees said. "Dalton McGuinty has allowed his minister to make a mockery of the Legislature and a mockery of any sensible standard of ministerial accountability. Ontarians need and deserve an independent investigation!"

"If Dalton McGuinty continues to refuse to act, we are calling on the Auditor General to exercise his prerogative to review this matter on his own accord and report back to the public prior to the next election. No government has the right to hide the truth."
