Klees: McGuinty Liberals' Health Care Propaganda an Insult
(Queen's Park) Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees once again took the cause of constituents in need of health care to the floor of the legislature today.
Pleading the case of Richmond Hill constituents, Carlos Tavares and his wife Rosa Tavares, Klees accused the McGuinty Liberals of spending millions of taxpayers' dollars on propaganda that misrepresents the true facts of the state of health care in the province.
"Against the backdrop of your taxpayer-paid propaganda campaign, claiming waiting rooms are empty and wait lists are dwindling, Mrs. Rosa Tavares of Richmond Hill wants to know why respite care for her husband was cut off when they moved from Mississauga to York Region," Klees told Liberal Health Minister George Smitherman.
Mr. Tavares and his wife moved to Richmond Hill from Mississauga in August so that Mrs. Tavares could be closer to her work, but were shocked to find out that the respite care they were receiving was cut off.
"My family and I did not move to Afghanistan," said Mrs. Tavares. "We moved from Mississauga , Ontario to Richmond Hill, Ontario .
"My husband, paralyzed from the neck down, still needs the same level of care despite the 30 km move."
Klees questioned why a resident of Ontario would be treated so differently from one region to another, and called on the Health Minister to intervene on behalf of the Tavares family.
