KLEES:  On Remembrance Day, Let's Support our Veterans and our Troops Overseas

(Queen's Park)  Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees, the PC Critic for Education and Citizenship & Immigration today made the following statement:

"This year marks the 90 th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.  That battle began at 5:30 am on a cold and brutal Monday, April 9, 1917.  It was a battle that saw Canada come of age as a nation through the great and heroic sacrifice of young Canadian soldiers.

"More than one and a half million Canadians have served overseas in the two World Wars and the Korean Conflict.  Tens of thousands of Canadians have served around the world in more than 40 U.N. peacekeeping missions.  Canadian soldiers continue to proudly serve their country today in Afghanistan .

"On Remembrance Day, communities across Canada will join together to remember the sacrifice of Canada 's armed forces and their families in the wars of the past.  We will proudly join our Veterans in laying wreaths at cenotaphs during memorial services.  The Dominion Institute's "Memory Project" also provides opportunities for Veterans to connect with youth in schools to bring their living witness to "Patriotism's Duty , Freedom's Price."

"On Remembrance Day, we especially remember the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan , their families who continue to bear the unspeakable grief of their loss and all those who continue in harm's way on all our behalf."

"In the immortal words of Col John McCrae:  "To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high.  If ye break faith with us who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields."
