This event was originally inspired by the proposed Ontario Bill 123, First Responders Day Act 2012, which was supported by all political parties but has yet to be proclaimed. Inspired by this bill, military wife Nicole Taylor and owner of Taylor Made Yoga – a yoga school for soldiers, veteran and responders – partnered with Dr. Lisa Hutchinson to collaborate on how to raise awareness and funds for PTSD in first responders research.
The organizing committee, headed by Nicole Taylor, includes representatives from emergency services and community organizations including the Southlake Regional Health Centre, York Regional Police, and individual members of the Toronto Fire dept, OPP, York CISM Team, Barrie Police and Canadian Forces.
Saturday, June 1, 2013 - Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, Newmarket, ON
iRun and Rock is a 1, 5,10K run, 4k Full Battle Rattle Team Relay and rock concert in support of the first responders and their families who make daily sacrifices to keep our communities safe. The event will raise awareness and help fund research efforts into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the damaging emotional trauma faced by lifesavers.
Whether you’re a first responder or a community member, the mental health of lifesavers affects all of us. It is our hope that civilians, community partners and first responders can come together on June 1, 2013 to have fun, run, rock and help us raise awareness about the challenges of PTSD. Come on out and show your support for the people that save lives in our communities and abroad.
