Klees Enters Race for Speaker
Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees confirmed today that his name will be on the ballot when the 107 MPPs vote for the next Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
"I believe that the people of Ontario want their MPPs to focus on making their government work,” said Klees, " Especially in a minority government, the role of the Speaker will be critical to ensuring that the legislature operates effectively."
"I've given a great deal of thought as to how I can best make a meaningful contribution, and given the circumstances, I believe that my 16 years of experience in the legislature, my knowledge of parliamentary procedure and my experience as a Cabinet Minister, Chief Government Whip, Deputy House Leader and knowledge of the Committee process, will serve my fellow MPPs and the legislature well.
The vote for Speaker will be conducted as the first Order of Business for the 40th Parliament. The date has not yet been determined, but is expected in mid November.
