A Call For Action !

(Queen’s Park) Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees is taking the cause of local car dealers to the legislature. At a press conference at AB Cox Pontiac Buick GMC Ltd he let local car dealers know that he understands the challenges they face in these tough economic times.

Car sales have never been slower and car lots are jammed with inventory.

Klees believes that one answer to stimulating car and truck sales is to implement a Provincial Sales Tax Holiday.

To get the McGuinty government’s attention, Klees launched a petition this week calling on the McGuinty government to include a 3 month Provincial Sales Tax Holiday on the sales of cars and trucks.

The provincial budget is scheduled for March 26th, and Klees wants the tax holiday to begin immediately.

“A sales tax holiday will provide immediate stimulus for sales.  It’s a measure that’s practical.  It goes directly to the consumer, it’s transparent and will stimulate sales,” said Klees.  “A similar measure was implemented in 1979 and according to a number of car dealers here in Aurora that was one of the best things that could have been done for a troubled car industry at that time.”

The petitions in support of this proposal are available on Klees’ website at or can be signed at his Aurora office.

Klees will present the petitions in the legislature beginning this week and will raise the issue directly with the Minister of Finance.
