Frank Klees MPP addresses the Polish Canadian Community of Toronto at the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. In April, 1940, thousands of Polish prisoners of war were shot by Soviet forces at Katyn near Smolensk in Russia. Frank Klees is joined by Wladyslaw Lizon, the president of the Canadian-Polish Congress and other prominent members of the Polish Community. |

| Frank Klees MPP was invited to join the Consul General of Poland, Marek Ciesielczuk, at the Polish Consulate in Toronto to sign the book of condolences on the tragic death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria and more than ninety others as their plane crashed while on its way to attend commemorative ceremonies at Katyn in Russia. | Frank has a well-deserved reputation as a great friend of so many cultural communities throughout Toronto and the GTA. Polish Canadians valued Frank’s consoling presence among them throughout their period of mourning of their beloved president! |
(Queen’s Park) Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees today made the following statement in the Ontario Legislature:
“I rise on behalf of the Ontario PC caucus to pay tribute to the memory of the late President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Lech Kaczynski and his wife, First Lady Mrs. Maria Kaczynski who, together with 94 of their most trusted friends and colleagues, died tragically on April 10, 2010.
“On this, which is a national day of mourning in Canada, His Grace Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will celebrate a memorial mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. We join with all who gather there in expressing our collective sorrow and sincere condolences and to celebrate their great achievements on behalf of their country and its people.
“This past Sunday, I had the honour of attending a wreath-laying at the Katyn monument in Toronto, and yesterday I was joined by my colleague MPP John Yakabuski at the Polish consulate to sign the book of condolences, together with many grieving members of our Polish Canadian community.
“On behalf of the Ontario PC caucus, and on behalf of all members of the Legislature, I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to the people of Poland at this difficult time as we remember the words that inspired President Kaczynski throughout his life: Niech Zyje Wolna Polska!”
