KLEES Launches Petition to Boost Nursing Home Care

(Queen’s Park) Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees today announced his petition calling on the McGuinty government to enhance long term care in Ontario.   Klees said the McGuinty Liberals broke their 2003 campaign promise to invest in better nursing home care and provide an additional $6,000 in care for every resident.

“Five years of Liberal inaction on long term care has seriously restricted Ontario’s ability to meet the growing needs of the 77,000 seniors who live in LTC homes,” said Klees.  “I remain deeply concerned about this because it seriously impacts our seniors’ ability to live with the dignity and respect they deserve.

“This is why I am enlisting the support of all York Region residents to sign this petition that calls on Premier McGuinty to enhance seniors’ care in nursing homes,” Klees said.

Klees’ petition calls on the McGuinty government to make seniors’ care a priority during these challenging economic times and move immediately to address six specific target areas in long term care service provision:

  • A sector-wide staffing increase of 4,500 full-time positions.
  • The redevelopment of Ontario’s 35,000 oldest LTC beds.
  •  Achieve an average of 3 hours of personal care, per day.
  •  Simplify the regulations governing nursing homes.
  •  Produce a plan, with benchmarks, to reduce LTC waitlists of more than 24,000 people.
  •  Address inflationary pressures by adequately funding the increased operating costs of LTC homes.

All are encouraged to sign Klees’ petition, which is available online at: Click here
