Legion Week Pays Tribute to the Great Sacrifices and
Enduring Dedication of Canada’s Heroes
(Queen’s Park) Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees today made the following statement in honour of Legion Week (September 19 – 27, 2008):
“Legion Week gives us all pause to reflect and honour those Canadian men and women who gave and continue to give so much in their service to our country. At Legion Halls across the country, there are ample opportunities for us to see and be inspired by the historical reminders of the great conflicts in which our Veterans served and in which many of their Comrades in arms paid the ultimate price to protect the values which we hold in common as Canadians.
“The ancient legions were Rome’s elite armies who conquered the known world of its day. It is entirely appropriate that our Veterans likewise worthily bear the same title as contemporary Legionnaires who were and continue to be sent throughout the world to conquer oppression and threats to freedom and democracy.
“During Legion Week 2008 we pay special tribute to the fallen Canadian peacekeepers in Afghanistan as we remember their grieving families with the assurance that they and their sacrifice will always be remembered by us and by succeeding generations of Canadians.
“As the Representative for Newmarket-Aurora, and on behalf of the people of our community, I gratefully acknowledge all our Veterans for all they have done and for all they continue to do to improve our quality of life while constantly reminding us of the heroism and self-sacrifice of Canada’s military heroes in all generations.”
