KLEES: McGuinty Government’s Response to H1N1 Flu Inadequate
(Aurora) Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees has called on the McGuinty government to make access to the H1N1 Flu vaccination a priority, calling the current immunization plans “inadequate and downright incompetent”.
Referring to the long line-ups, limited locations and hours of operation of clinics designated to administer the vaccine, Klees said he can’t help but question the competency of those charged with the responsibility of implementing the vaccination plans.
“On the one hand, we’re told there’s a looming crisis and that there’s an urgent need for people to get vaccinated, yet it couldn’t have been made more difficult for people to access the vaccination,” said Klees.
“I’ve had numerous calls from constituents complaining that the last thing their vulnerable child or elderly parent should be exposed to is a packed waiting room or line-up for hours on end.”
Klees confirmed that he and the PC Opposition have called on the McGuinty government to extend the hours of clinic operation to 24-7, and expand the number of sites where the vaccination can be accessed, including workplace clinics.
“If people aren’t sick when they get into these line-ups and packed vaccination clinics, they may well be, by the time they leave,” said Klees. “What brilliant mind decided that the vaccinations should be rationed to a few locations, make people line up for hours and only open them for a limited number of hours?”
