MPP Renews Call for More Frequent GO Train Service

In a statement to the legislature today, Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees renewed his call for more frequent Go Train service between Union Station and Newmarket and Aurora.

Klees seized the opportunity to draw the government's attention to a motion passed unanimously by Newmarket Council this past week. The resolution cites gridlock as a growing concern and asks that the government make more frequent GO Train service a priority.

"The Newmarket Council resolution points out that gridlock is impacting not only residents, but also businesses in this growing community" said Klees. "The major north/south arteries, especially Highways 404 and 400 are becoming almost impassable at certain times of the day. This has huge costs to business through loss of productivity, and also impacts our quality of life."

Klees has asked Bruce McCuaig, CEO of Metrolinx, to prepare a report on the feasibility, costs and implementation of an enhanced Go Train schedule.

With a provincial election slated for October 6th, Klees intends to make more frequent Go Train service to Newmarket and Aurora one of his priorities.
