McGuinty Liberals Stop DriveTest Back-to-Work Legislation
(Queen’s Park) Liberal MPP's refused to support a motion today that would have forced immediate debate of back-to-work legislation for Ontario's DriveTest centres.
The request for unanimous consent to immediately bring forward for Second and Third Reading a Bill tabled by Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson was made by PC Transportation Critic Frank Klees. The unanimous consent motion was defeated when numerous Liberal MPP's refused to give their consent.
"This shows that not only is the Premier and his Cabinet out of touch with hard working Ontarians on this issue, but Liberal MPPs are just as callous to the hardships their constituents are experiencing," said Klees.
"This was an opportunity to deal with this strike that is now in its 15th week, to get people back to work and to get some semblance of normalcy back into people's lives.”
The back-to-work legislation tabled by the PC Opposition would require that all services at DriveTest Centres across Ontario are immediately resumed and that an arbitrator be appointed with the responsibility to ensure that a fair and reasonable settlement is reached.
