Klees: Chief Coroner or Ornge –
Who's Judgement Should Be Questioned

Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees questioned the circumstances under which

Dr. Andrew McCallum was offered his job as President and CEO of Ornge.

"Since 2007, the Emergency Health Services Branch has notified the Chief Coroner of 24 cases in which operational issues at Ornge may have contributed to the death of a patient," Klees told the legislature.

Klees questioned why an Expert Panel established by the Chief Coroner in August of last year to review those deaths, and was expected to report by the end of last year, has yet to report its findings.

Instead of receiving that Coroner's report, Klees said the new Ornge Board announced on December 19th that the Chief Coroner had been hired as the President and CEO of Ornge.

"Whose judgement is more questionable?" asked Klees.

The judgement of the Minister and the Ornge Board for approaching the Chief Coroner under those circumstances or Dr. McCallum's for even entertaining an offer of employment from an organization his office was investigating ?

Klees has called McCallum to testify before the Committee investigating Ornge. He is scheduled to appear on Wednesday, March 20 at 12:30 pm.
