YORK REGION’S MEDIA RELEASE ON TRANSIT STRIKE OFFENSIVE
(Aurora)- Offensive, is how Newmarket-Aurora MPP Frank Klees described York Region’s Media Release on the ongoing transit strike in York Region.
“To put out a media release declaring that the Regional Municipality of York is ‘taking action to restore transit service’ is offensive and only serves to feed the cynicism that people have towards government,” said Klees. “The fact is, that replacing a 40-foot YRT bus with a 60-foot bus between Bernard Terminal and the Finch GO Bus Terminal does nothing to help commuters in Newmarket and Aurora and anywhere else in York Region.”
“For the Chair of York Region to characterize this as ‘placing riders at the forefront’, only demonstrates that Mr. Fisch has lost touch with the residents of York Region,” said Klees.
“I would like to remind Mr. Fisch that York Region includes a geographic area that reaches far beyond Richmond Hill and Yonge Street, and that there are more than 70,000 commuters who have been experiencing untold hardships as a result of this ongoing strike. This media release today is an insult to those affected by this strike. What is needed is meaningful leadership to fully restore transit services in York Region.”
